Storm Gertie caused the death of two people in France as it swept across the country with strong winds and unstable weather conditions, authorities confirmed on Friday.
The Hauts de France regional administration reported two minor injuries in its latest situation update related to the powerful winds and severe weather affecting the country.
As Storm Gertie moves toward Central Europe, two departments, Landes and Pyrenees Atlantiques, remain under orange alert, with wind speeds expected to exceed 100 kilometers per hour.
According to multiple media reports, most regions in France, including Eure et Loir, Ile de France, Normandy, Picardy, and Nord Pas de Calais, have been downgraded to yellow alert status as winds gradually weaken.
However, the French Meteorological Service warned that rain bands trailing the storm system continue to be accompanied by strong gusts in several areas.
In the same context, Paris recorded a maximum temperature of 7 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures fell to around 3 degrees, adding to icy conditions in parts of the country.
Authorities continue to urge residents to remain cautious as unstable weather persists, particularly in regions still under heightened alert.
