A South Korean fishing boat carrying 27 crew members capsized off Jeju Island early Friday, resulting in the deaths of two crew members and leaving 12 others missing, according to the South Korean Coast Guard.
While 15 crew were rescued, search operations are underway to locate the missing individuals.
The South Korean news agency Yonhap reported that the Coast Guard received a distress call Friday morning from the fishing vessel sinking approximately 24 kilometers off Byeong Island, near Jeju.
According to the rescued crew members, the incident occurred as they were transferring their catch to another vessel when the boat suddenly capsized and began to sink.
The vessel is now fully submerged, according to the Coast Guard.
