1st Technology University Opened in New Cairo

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has succeeded in fulfilling its promise to open the first technology university in Egypt, the Technology University in New Cairo, within the framework of major projects announced during the past two years.

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, said: "Technical education in higher education represents the engine of prosperity and development of nations."

He stressed: “President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has promised to establish new universities, now we have three technology universities, while the total number will be eight universities in the next steps.”

“There will be collaboration with international universities and technology universities, there is a university in Geneva that we will collaborate with it in the field of tourism and hotels .”

The minister said: "We have agreed with factories to offer job opportunities for students after graduation," explaining that the cost of the establishment of the technology universities is estimated at 600 million pounds, and it is planned to include technological parks if the conditions are met, there will be branches of universities as colleges or institutes in other universities throughout the Republic,” Dr.  Abdel Ghaffar revealed.

He stressed that the new technology universities are an extension of the course of technical education students, as these universities provide them with practical and scientific skills to cope with the requirements of the local and international labor market, through the technological programs that are applied at the university's colleges.

Information about the Technology University in New Cairo

The Technology University in New Cairo includes the Faculty of Industry and Energy Technology, the programs that will begin this year 2019/2020 are: (Information Technology, new and renewable energy, and autotronics and mechatronics).

As for the programs proposed to be implemented in the coming years according to the financial resources and the needs of the labor market are: (Technology of operation and maintenance of power systems and plants, Technology of operation and maintenance of control and monitoring systems, technology of operation and maintenance of electricity transmission and distribution networks, Technology of operation and maintenance of electrical systems, Technology of operation and maintenance of electronic devices, Technology of operation and maintenance of communication systems, Technology of operation and maintenance of precision instruments and machines, Technology of operation and maintenance of textile equipment, technology of the metallurgical industry, technology of garment industry, technology of chemical industry, and technology of food industry).

The duration of study in these colleges is four years (2 + 2); it will allow students after the first two years to obtain a professional diploma, to enter the labor market; they can complete the other two years to obtain a professional bachelor's degree in technology in the majors of: ( New and renewable energy technologies, information technology, mechatronics and autotronics (automotive).

These programs are just the beginning of a range of new technological programs required in the labor market, such as: financial institution management technology, medical device technology, tourism technology).

Technological universities grant the following degrees:

1. Professional Higher Diploma of Technology in the major:

Student who want to study to get this degree should holds a professional diploma in technology in the major, or a certificate of completion of technical secondary education (the three-year system) or its equivalent of technical certificates or a certificate of completion of secondary school or its equivalent.

2. Professional Bachelor of Technology in the major:

Students who want to study to get this degree should hold a higher professional diploma in technology in the major or its equivalent technical certificates.

3. Professional Master in Technology in the major:

Student who desire to study to get this degree should hold a Professional bachelor degree in technology in the major or its equivalent technical and technological bachelor degrees.

4. Professional PhD in Technology in the major:

Students who wish to study to get this degree should hold a professional master's degree or its equivalent technical and technological master's degree.

Basing on the Supreme Council for Technology Education, the Supreme Council of Universities determines the study requirements for each degree.

These universities offer degrees of Higher Diploma, Bachelor of Technology, Professional Master and Professional PhD in Technology.

The University Buildings

The Technology University in New Cairo includes a renewable energy laboratory, the basics of electricity and electronics and electrical circuits laboratory, computer labs, pneumatics and hydraulic labs, physics lab, digital cutting machine workshop, multi-purpose playground, 6 classrooms equipped with projectors, and engineering drawing rooms.

The three technology universities:

The three technology universities "New Cairo, Quesna, Beni Suef" also include 24 senior leadership, 52 faculty members , cooperating staff for the first operational year, and 117 administrators for all university departments and technology colleges of industry and energy.

The Number of students in technology universities:

The Technology University in New Cairo accommodates 282 students, the Technology University in Delta "Quesna" accommodates 262 students, and the Technology University in Beni Suef accommodates 144 students.
