The Czech Republic announced that a Czech mercenary, who had volunteered to join the Ukrainian Army and help the country repel the Russian invasion, was killed in action.

Officials confirmed that it is the first death of a Czech citizen, Radio Prague International reported, according to Ukrinform.

"Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky confirmed the information about the death of the first Czech volunteer who took part in helping the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Donetsk region," the statement said.

The man in question was from Třebíč, according to reports published on social media. Czech Television said he had operated in Ukraine for several months before being killed in a mortar shelling.

In May, 100 Czech volunteers received permission from President Milos Zeman to join the Ukrainian Army and fight against the Russian troops.

Earlier this week, the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs of confirmed that a citizen of the Southern American country was killed “on the territory of Ukraine as a result of the conflict.”

“Via Brazil’s embassy in Kiev, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received a confirmation of its citizen’s death on the territory of Ukraine as a result of the conflict, and is staying in touch with his relatives to provide all possible assistance within the framework of international agreements and local laws,” the ministry said in a statement.

In addition, the ministry pointed out that from the very outset of the conflict it strongly recommended citizens avoid visiting Ukraine.

Social network posts identified the man as Andre Luis Hack Bahi, a former Brazilian serviceman. Along with three other citizens of Brazil, the man was a member of the so-called International Legion of Territorial Defense of Ukraine and fought against Russian troops.
