The United Nations has warned that over 16 million Syrians urgently need humanitarian aid, as years of war, economic collapse, and infrastructure destruction push millions into poverty and hunger.
Najjat Rochdi, UN Deputy Special Envoy for Syria, described the situation as catastrophic, with severe shortages of food, healthcare, and clean water.
The crisis is particularly dire for displaced populations, both inside Syria and in refugee camps across the region.
Economist Mohammed Hafid highlighted the economic collapse as a key factor worsening the crisis.
The currency’s decline, soaring food prices, and high unemployment have left 75% of the population dependent on aid.
According to UNICEF, an estimated 7.5 million children require humanitarian aid, while 40% of hospitals are non-operational.
Over 2.4 million children are out of school, and millions lack access to clean water and sanitation.
