Fourteen people lost their lives on Tuesday after a bus carrying 27 passengers plunged into the Indus River in northern Pakistan.
According to a statement from authorities in Gilgit-Baltistan, only one person survived the accident, although they sustained injuries. The remaining twelve passengers are currently missing, as reported by Reuters.
The accident, attributed to excessive speed, occurred when the driver lost control of the vehicle.
Local television channel Geo reported that the bus was part of a wedding convoy headed to Chakwal in Pakistan when it veered off a bridge and fell into the river.
Fatal road accidents are tragically common in Pakistan, often due to a lack of adherence to traffic laws and poor road conditions in many rural areas.
Just last August, two separate bus accidents in northeastern and southwestern Pakistan claimed the lives of at least 34 people, underscoring the urgent need for enhanced road safety measures in the country.
