The United Nations has reported an alarming surge in Syria’s displacement crisis, with an additional 1.1 million people forced to flee their homes following the fall of the Assad regime.

Cairo News Channel relaid this announcement in an urgent broadcast.

The aftermath of the Assad regime’s collapse has intensified the already dire humanitarian situation in Syria.

Millions of Syrians had been displaced during the 12-year-long conflict, and this latest wave of internal displacement compounds the challenges faced by a country already struggling with instability, economic collapse, and the lingering effects of war.

Since the Syrian civil war began in 2011, the country has endured one of the largest humanitarian crises in modern history.

More than half of the pre-war population—about 13 million people—has been displaced, with 6.8 million internally displaced and 6.5 million seeking refuge in neighboring countries and beyond.

The displacement crisis has been fueled by widespread destruction, ongoing clashes between factions, and a lack of infrastructure and basic services.

Camps for internally displaced persons (IDPs) are overcrowded, poorly equipped, and lack adequate food, water, and healthcare resources. The addition of 1.1 million new IDPs post-regime change has stretched already limited resources even further.
