The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) reported that over 10,000 individuals in Gaza require immediate medical evacuation following the ongoing conflict, which has resulted in more than 41,000 deaths.
Louise Wotridge, spokesperson for UNRWA, shared the update during a press briefing in Geneva, highlighting the dire medical situation in the region.
In a parallel effort, the European Commission announced that the European Union coordinated the medical evacuation of eight critically ill patients from Gaza.
These patients, along with 24 of their family members, were transferred to hospitals in Bucharest, Romania. This marks the first time the EU has organized a medical evacuation from Gaza to its territory.
Since the conflict in Gaza escalated in October 2023, 45 critically ill Palestinian patients have been transported to hospitals in Spain, Belgium, and Italy with assistance from the World Health Organization (WHO).
According to WHO, nearly 5,000 people have been evacuated for medical treatment since the start of the war.
However, an additional 10,000 people in Gaza are still in urgent need of evacuation for essential medical care.
