At least 10 people were killed in the Indian state of Sikkim and 82 others were missing, including 23 army personnel, after heavy rains caused the icy Lunak Lake to overflow, leading to catastrophic flooding in the region on Wednesday.
So far, 10 bodies have been recovered from different locations, while at least 82 other people are still missing and 22 people have been injured, some of them in serious condition, according to the local administration of the state.
Heavy rains over a short period on Lake Lunak caused heavy flooding in the valley located about 150 kilometers north of Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim state, near the border with China.
