At least 10 people were killed when a light aircraft collided with a motorcycle and a car while it was landing at an airport on the outskirts of the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur.
The Beechcraft 390 Premier 1, a light private business jet, was carrying 6 passengers and 2 crew when it crashed near the town of Almina.
"The plane lost contact with the air traffic control tower, and collided with a motorbike and a car on the highway," Selangor state police chief Hussain Omar told reporters, noting that "there was no emergency call."
The Civil Aviation Authority said that the plane left the tourist island of Langkawi, and was on its way to Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in the state of Selangor, near the capital, Kuala Lumpur.
"The plane made the first contact with the air traffic control tower in Subang at 2:47 in the afternoon," said the chief executive of the authority, Nourazman Mahmoud, noting that it was granted permission to land at 2:48 in the afternoon.
"At 2:51 pm, the air traffic control tower in Subang noticed smoke coming from the crash site, but the plane did not issue any distress call," he added.
