1 Policeman Killed, 2 Other Injured in Houston's Shooting

One policeman was killed, and two others were injured in a shooting that took place in Houston, Texas, media agencies reported on Sunday.

In a statement released by Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman, he explained that a gunman shot several policemen as they were trying to detain someone outside a Houston bar on Saturday.

He added: "Deputies Atkins, Garrett, and Barthen are true law enforcement heroes that were cowardly ambushed while serving and protecting their community."

The incident happened around 2:15 am, two of the Precinct 4 constable deputies went outside the bar after hearing sounds of disturbance.

"It turns out it may have been a robbery they were intervening in ... probably unknown to them at the time," authorities added.

They tried to detain the suspect, before an armed man and shot them. Next, a third deputy heard the gunshots, ran out to the scene without drawing his gun, so he was shot immediately.

The Injured deputies were sent to the hospital, one of them underwent surgery and he is now kept in the ICU without giving any details.

In the same context, authorities expressed that they took one person into custody. Later, the authorities highlighted that the suspect is not believed to be the shooter.
