The United Nations (UN) humanitarian coordinator in the Gaza Strip, Jamie McGoldrick, has expressed concern over the spread of waterborne diseases in the region due to the lack of clean water and rising temperatures, reported Palestine News Agency (WAFA).
McGoldrick said,“It is becoming very hot there. People are getting much less water than they need, and as a result, there have been waterborne diseases due to lack of safe and clean water and the disruption of the sanitation systems.”
McGoldrick further called for measures to improve the supply of clean water to the crowded areas of Gaza.
Contaminated water and poor sanitation are linked to diseases such as cholera, diarrhea, dysentery and hepatitis A, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).
