Starting July 1, ships bearing floating units through the Suez Canal will face additional transit charges, as declared in a Sunday circular by the Suez Canal Authority (SCA). A significant revision to its Navigation Rules, the SCA has planned to enforce supplementary dues equating to "100 percent of transit charges for the floating Suez Canal Gross Tonnage (SCGT) units."

Further, an additional two percent of the transit fees will be levied on each foot or fraction thereof, which surpasses the maximum allowable width.

Earlier this month, SCA's Chairman, Osama Rabie, shared that a comprehensive review of the canal's transit tariffs was ongoing, with an expectation of reaching a decision by October. Any tariff changes stemming from this decision are slated to come into force from January 2024.
