Korean Amb. Kim Yonghyon visits Hyundai Rotem exhibition booth at TRANSMEA 2023

Korean Ambassador Kim Yonghyon visited Hyundai Rotem exhibition booth at TRANSMEA 2023 while promoting 2030 Busan World Expo.

The Korean Ambassador, Mr. Kim Yonghyon, visited TRANSMEA 2023 venue in International Exhibition Center in New Cairo and participated the panel discussions at the closing ceremony, on Wednesday, November 8, 2023. 

In his remarks, Ambassador Kim congratulated the Egyptian Minister of Transport on the success of the 5th TransMEA describing it as a leading forum for transport and logistics technology in the region. He added that Korea-Egypt relations have witnessed outstanding developments in recent years since President El-Sisi’s visit to Korea in 2016 and President Moon’s visit to Egypt last year. Ambassador Kim also mentioned the he is pleased that Hyundai Rotem will provide 320 metro cars to Cairo Metro Lines 2 and 3, most of which will be manufactured in Egypt's East Port Said Economic Zone, creating quality jobs for Egyptians and transferring technology. Ambassador Kim also expressed his hope that the company's current efforts to participate in Alexandria Metro and Tram projects will bear fruits. 

At the discussions, NERIC project director Mr. Ahmed El Mofty expressed his gratitude for the Korean government's commitment to transferring technology to Egypt and promoting localization.

Mr. Wael Naem, Advisor to the Minister of Transport, who moderated the discussions, praised the bilateral cooperation with Korea in industrial education, referring to the importance of the Railway Industries Department in Beni Suef Technological University which is planned to be established in cooperation with KOICA, Korean International Cooperation Agency. 

On the occasion of today's TRANSMEA 2023, Ambassador Kim also visited the exhibition booth of Hyundai Rotem, a renowned Korean company in the railway industry. During the visit to Hyundai Rotem booth, Ambassador Kim met with Mr. Sungha JUN, Hyundai Rotem’s Vice President. Mr. Jun stated that Hyundai Rotem's production value reached 1.2 billion Euros in 2022 with international production bases in the United States, Europe, Brazil and India. 

Ambassador Kim also visited the special booth dedicated to Busan’s bid to World Expo 2030, adding that Busan is a gateway linking the Eurasian continent and the Pacific and a regional logistics hub positioned among the world’s most vibrant economies. Ambassador Kim closed his remarks asserting on Busan’s ability to promote prosperity and peace by hosting the World EXPO 2030. 

The closing ceremony of TRANSMEA 2023 was attended by H.E Lieutenant General Kamel Al-Wazir, the Minister of Transport, Arab Republic of Egypt and other dignitaries.
