Season two of the hit TV series “Gaafar El Omda” was initially set to screen during the Ramadan 2024 drama marathon.

Sources close to the situation revealed the series will not screen during the holy month due to the new policies of the drama, and limits set for production. This comes after reports circulated around the exit of the series from the drama marathon.

The first season premiered last Ramadan drama marathon and was one of the most-watched TV series during its premiere.

The series starred Mohamed Ramadan, Eman El Assi, Zeina, Mai Kassab, Menna Fadali, Hala Sedki, Ahmed Dash, and others.

It was scripted and directed by Mohamed Sami and marked Ramadan and Sami’s fourth collaboration after the 2020 TV series “Al Prince”, the 2016 TV series “Al-Ostora”, and the 2017 film “Jawab E'teqal”.

“Gaafar El Omda” opened up, as the actor's series usually do, with great tragedy: a kidnapped child, accidental killings, time in prison, and enemies galore, etc, as part of the package that comes with Gaafar, a rather fit 50-something real estate mogul living in El Sayeda Zeinab.

He is still trying to find his missing son and is fighting off his enemies right, left, and center.

Ramadan never fails to deliver his tried and true formula — fight scenes, sweet-talking the women, and doling out justice on family members who tend to betray him.

On June 13, the TV series was renewed for season 2, with Sami back to direct from a screenplay he co-wrote with Mohab Tarek. Media Hub was the studio behind the series.

Hala Sedki also returned to the upcoming season, while other members Eman El Assi, Zeina, and Mai Kassab opted not to.

Bleak future

Ramadan has shared a disappointing update on season two of “Gaafar El Omda” as he confirmed it will no longer happen.

In a recent interview with "SBC" Saudi TV channel, the actor disclosed his refusal to present a second two of the series and cited he will not be incentivized to make the series.

"Just because Gaafar El Omda succeeded, I'm supposed to do a second season, in turn, all my previous works were supposed to have a second season," Ramadan explained. "I'm against the idea that every work that succeeds should be renewed for a second season as that won't give me any incentive. I want to take on a new challenge and play a new character that the audience will love, sympathize with, and be affected by."
