Germany pledges an additional €244 million to support Sudan, urging all nations to step up and contribute as the country faces an imminent humanitarian crisis.

Announced by German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock on Monday during the International Humanitarian Conference for Sudan and neighboring countries in Paris, the contribution aims to address the pressing needs of Sudanese civilians.

"In conflicts like Sudan, we must not turn a blind eye. With unified international efforts, we can bring key military leaders to the negotiation table and halt the violence," Baerbock stated, emphasizing the urgency for collective action.

Highlighting the critical situation in Sudan, where half the population relies on aid for survival, Baerbock warned that without comprehensive measures, millions are at risk of starvation.

"Germany is committing an additional €244 million and calls on all nations to demonstrate courage and contribute," she stressed.

Baerbock emphasized that sustainable peace in Sudan hinges on inclusive dialogue involving civil society, particularly women, rather than military dominance. Germany stands firm in supporting Sudanese efforts to shape a shared vision for the country's future.

The International Humanitarian Conference for Sudan and neighboring countries convenes amidst ongoing conflicts, with Sudan's Rapid Support Forces initiating a rebellion against the state and engaging in warfare with armed forces since mid-April 2023.

Various international initiatives aim to broker an immediate ceasefire and seek a permanent resolution to the Sudanese crisis, including initiatives led by the African Union, Jeddah, and Cairo for Sudan's neighboring states.
