Egyptian Minister of Antiquities, Dr. Khaled Al-Anani, called for an emergency meeting next week with the National Committee for Antiquities to over the selling of Tutankhamun bust.

"Egypt’s iconic Archaeologist Dr.Zahi Hawass will participate at the meeting," the Antiquities Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

The meeting will also be attended by senior leaders of the Foreign Ministry, Interior Ministry, General Prosecution, State Cases Authority and Security bodies.

They will discuss the auction held on July 3 and 4 at the Christie's auction hall in London, where Egyptian Pharaonic Antiquities were sold illegally.

Al-Anani will talk over the legal procedures to be taken by the Egyptian authorities regarding this matter.

The statement added that the Ministry of Antiquities and State agencies will not hesitate to take any measures to recover the Egyptian Antiquities.

“The antiquities have been exported out of Egypt illegally,” the statement explained. “Egypt will complete its policy of recovering the Egyptian antiquities.”

The statement concluded by saying that the country has recovered thousands of archaeological pieces from more than 15 countries during the past few years.

It is noteworthy that Egypt has denounced the selling of Pharaonic antiquities at the Christie’s auction in London on Wednesday.

The Egyptian Foreign and Antiquities ministries issued a joint statement condemning holding the auction, saying it is contravening the international treaties and conventions.
