Egyptian–German Mission Discover Numerous Monuments in 2019

The Egyptian-German archaeological mission operating in Matariya area found numerous monuments during its work in 2019 spring.

“This season’s work included the areas of El Moaskar, Nakhtenbo I temple, and 251 known as Motasem street,” said Dr. Ayman Ashmawy, Head of the Egyptian Antiquities Department at the Ministry of Antiquities and a senior member of The Egyptian-German archaeological mission in Matariya.

“The mission also found various artifacts in the El Moaskar area, which has industrial workshops dating back" to the 6th century to the second century BC,” he added.

Ashmawy added that they also found a building from the Ptolemaic period containing ovens for making bread.

 

On his part, Egyptologist Dr. Dietrich Raue, head of the German mission, said that the mission found basalt blocks and basalt fractures, which bore inscriptions representing the geographical regions of Lower Egypt during the Nakhtenbo I period.

The Egyptian-German archaeological mission also uncovered a thick brick wall extending from north to south. It had a width of 4.40 meters.
