Egypt Elected as Member of IMO Council for Category (C)

Egypt was elected as a member of the International Maritime Organization Council (IMO) in Category (C) for 2024-2025 biennium during the organization’s elections held on Friday at the International Maritime Organization’s headquarters in London.

Egypt received the third largest number of votes, obtaining 142 votes out of a total of 166 valid votes.

Transport Minister Kamel El-Wazir praised on Friday the great success achieved by Egypt in the International Maritime Organization elections, and attributed the victory to the great support of the political leadership, which places among its priorities raising Egypt’s status at the international level in all fields.

Category (A) includes the 10 countries with the greatest interest in providing international shipping services: i.e. China, Greece, Italy, Japan, Liberia, Norway, Panama, the Republic of Korea, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Category (B) included 10 countries with the greatest interest in international maritime trade, namely: Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, India, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the United Arab Emirates.

Category (C) also includes the Bahamas, Bangladesh, Chile, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, Indonesia, Jamaica, Kenya, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Morocco, Peru, Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore and Turkey.
