The African Union has officially condemned the recent Israeli incursion into Rafah, a city in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, urging the international community to intervene to stop the "bloody escalation" in the conflict.

This statement was issued on Wednesday and distributed by the Agence France-Presse.

In a declaration shared on the social media platform X, Moussa Faki Mahamat, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, expressed strong condemnation of the conflict's extension to the Rafah crossing.

This site is pivotal as it serves as the sole passageway for humanitarian aid into the besieged Palestinian enclave.

The statement highlighted the grave concern over Israeli tanks taking control of the Rafah crossing, emphasizing its critical role in facilitating the flow of humanitarian assistance to Gaza's residents.

The African Union's call emphasizes the urgent need for international efforts to restore peace and ensure the safe delivery of aid to those affected by the ongoing hostilities.
