Archaeologists discover tomb near Senusert's Pyramid

CAIRO, SEPT 5 (SEE) The Egyptian archaeological mission discovered on Wednesday a tomb about 300 meters north-east of the pyramid of King Senusret I in the Lisht area.

Adel Okasha, Director of the Central Department of Antiquities in Cairo and Giza said that the tomb is engraved on the edge of a rocky mountain.

Mohammed al-Dali, Director of Antiquities of Dahshur and Al-Lisht said that the first part of the tomb is an open courtyard leading to a corridor with a domed roof carrying hieroglyphic inscriptions. 

On the second part, there is a burial chamber located in an open courtyard on an area ​​100 cm long, 80 cm wide and at a depth of about 3 meters.

"In the western side of the room, there is a passage leading to the initial burial chamber and an unmarked room next to the northern wall with an empty limestone sarcophagus," he added.

The Department of Restoration is currently in the process of restoring necessary parts of the tomb.
