Antiquities Min. Participates at Papyrus Center’s Conference

CAIRO, Dec. 18 (SEE)- On behalf of the Minister of Antiquities Khaled Alanani, the minister’s assistant Mostafa Amin participated on Tuesday in the inauguration of the Annual Conference for the Papyrus and Inscriptions Studies’ Center affiliated to Ain Shames.

The conference was titled “Medicine and pharmacy in Egypt and Near East from ancient times till the early Islamic era. The conference was organized by the center in cooperation with the Coptic Orthodox Cultural Center.

In his speech, Amin said, “This year, the conference’s topic matches the development Egypt is witnessing in the health field, in medical and pharmaceutical sciences.

He added “Medicine and pharmacy in Egypt enjoys a prestigious history. Ancient Egyptian civilization offered important papyruses that clarify that Egyptian doctors were clever at curing several diseases and at producing drugs. Ancient Egyptian doctors also enjoyed a prestigious status, not only on a national level, but also across the neighboring countries.”

“The center represents an added value to the national and international research fields, as it is specialized in the Egyptian text media. Its teamwork register and document the papyrus files, publish them, so that researchers can have an access to reach these documents. Also it trains not only researchers specialized in reading and investigating papyrus’ texts, but also specialists in restoring and maintaining papyrus and manuscripts.”

Amin expressed his delighted regarding the cooperation between the ministry and the university in the field of antiquities and archaeological excavations. The university’s missions work at several archaeological sites, such as the areas of: Arab Alhesn in Mataria, Kaws in Qena governorate, and Alkosir in the Red Sea
