Antiquities Min. Completes Renovation of Esna Temple's Ceiling

CAIRO, March 13 (SEE)- Dr. Mostafa Waziri, secretary general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, said restoration work of Temple of Esna’s ceiling has finished.

Temple of Esna is located in city of Esna south Luxor governorate and restoration work was in line with the temple’s development project.

Waziri confirmed that restoration led to highlighting all scenes and inscriptions’ vivid colors which have never been seen before.

On his part, Mr. Ahmed Hasan Amin, director of Esna inspectorate, said all photographic documentations for texts and scenes are also done

For the next step, Entesar Mostafa, restoration director of temple of Esna, clarified that all walls are going to be restored besides fixing their colors and removing the accumulated soot.

“Moreover, some fallen stone blocks will be reinstalled,” she added.

It’s worth mentioning that all restoration work is being done by a specialized Egyptian team under the supervision of Upper Egypt Restoration Administration in Luxor.

Temple of Esna is located 55 Km south Luxor on the west bank of the Nile and considered one of the city's most important landmarks.

It was first uncovered and cleaned at the end of Muhammad Ali era in 1834.
