"If you talk to a man in a language he understands, your words go to his head. If you talk to him with his mother language, your words go to his heart" ..was a famous saying by African leader Nelson Mandela.

Learning languages opens up new horizons, especially in learning about the cultures of the intended state, Egyptian universities include many colleges specialized in languages and literature as part of the Alsun faculties.

Being fluent in a second language next to the  mother language has become a must in the labor market. This is why El-Alsun college in Ain Shams University decided to open a Portuguese language section.

Dr. Mahmoud El-Matiny, President of Ain Shams University, asserted that the Faculty of Al-Alson is one of the historical monuments of Egypt. It was opened by the great scientist Rafaa Al-Tahtawi in 1835, and is just a few years away from reaching 200, which is almost the age of the founding of the United States of America.

El-Matiny pointed out that the Faculty of Al-Alsun today is a huge educational institution containing fifteen language sectors, in addition to three languages taught as a second subject. In light of the globalization in the world, the world looks like a small village.

He addressed the students, stressing that the mere study at the Faculty of Al-Alsun opens the doors of the labor market for them, praising the great efforts made by Dr. Abdel Wahab Ezzat, the former president of the university, and Dr. Mona Fouad, the former dean of the college, in completing the establishment of the Portuguese Department.

Dr. Abdel Fattah Saud, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, also addressed the role of the Faculty of Al-Alson in embracing various civilizations within its walls, stressing that the activation of the Department of Portuguese Language came in accordance with the instructions of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to extend bridges of cooperation with the friendly state of Portugal. A large number of Latin American countries are Portuguese speakers other than five African countries that speak Portuguese as their first language.

Dr. Salwa Rashad, Dean of the Faculty, said that the interest in the opening of the Portuguese language department is at the center of the attention of the college administration in accordance with the protocol of cooperation between the University of Ain Shams represented at the Faculty of Alsun and the University of Porto. It is expected that the graduates of this section will meet the urgent need of the labor market in Egypt, especially in the field of translation, tourism and investment companies related to this specialization.

Portuguese Ambassador Madeleina Fischer said that teaching languages is the key to learning about civilizations through knowledge of literature, history and music. It is also a great way to work, pointing out that it is a cognitive power to learn a language other than languages such as English because it opens wider areas of work to students.
