On May 6th, President Xi Jinping engaged in a pivotal trilateral meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at the Élysée Palace in Paris. The meeting underscored China's commitment to fostering robust relationships with France and the European Union (EU) amid a backdrop of global uncertainty and transformation.

President Xi reiterated China's strategic outlook on EU relations, highlighting Europe's significance in its diplomatic landscape and modernization journey. Emphasizing mutual reinforcement, he called for strengthened cooperation between China and both France and the EU. Against the backdrop of global turbulence, President Xi emphasized the importance of partnership between China and the EU, advocating for sustained dialogue, cooperation, and strategic coordination to bolster bilateral ties and contribute to global peace and development.

Addressing concerns over bilateral relations, President Xi emphasized the intrinsic potential and promising future of China-EU relations, emphasizing their non-targeting nature towards any third party. He urged EU institutions to adopt a positive stance towards China and uphold mutual respect, core interests, and international norms.

President Macron echoed sentiments of collaboration, marking the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between France and China. He emphasized the urgent need for enhanced cooperation, particularly in addressing pressing international challenges. Refuting the notion of decoupling, Macron welcomed Chinese investment in Europe and advocated for joint efforts in safeguarding supply chains and addressing global issues like climate change.

The leaders also addressed ongoing crises, expressing support for peace in Europe amidst the Ukraine conflict and advocating for humanitarian aid and a two-state solution in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

The trilateral meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of mutual cooperation and understanding, with a commitment to further advancing China-EU relations amidst evolving global dynamics.
