In the high-intensity world of squash, few coaches have managed to equal the squash ability of this man known as Zeyad Moustafa, better known as Ziad Roshdy. This prodigious, young coach, Zeyad, is rapidly building a good reputation for himself as one of Egypt's stars in squash, different from many others who also coach the sport.
Zeyad started squash at age of 10 and promptly won numerous junior category tournaments in Egypt and abroad. He earned a degree in Engineering as he was excelling two majors at the same time (Civil and Architecture), but then he finally decided to dedicate himself to squash. Upon graduating, he moved to New York City to train as a professional player. There, he was very successful and won many titles; he gained a good reputation for his outstanding speed and skills, combined with good sportsman-like manners on and off the court. But he had to return back to Egypt due to a knee injury
Upon returning to Egypt in early 2023, Zeyad had set his eyes on coaching with a dream to become the best in the country. Within some months, he has been very influential in coaching some of the world's best-rated players, such as Nour El Sherbini and Mostafa Asal. Nowadays, he works at Smouha Club as the Squash Director, coaching top elite athletes, developing squash programs that will allow players to reach their full potential.
Zeyad approaches his philosophy in coaching, making sure that besides technical skills, mental strength and discipline get equal prominence. The progress of his players is a reflection of how well he can connect with the athletes to inspire them.
Zeyad Moustafa is a bright star in squash coaching in Egypt. His dedication and his impressive past as a player give him a strong chance to improve the sport. With him leading the way, the next group of Egyptian squash players is sure to find success around the world.
We spoke to Zeyad and he said,
“I’m so happy to be able to do the thing I love the most, my passion is always dedicated to squash”
“I had the best time playing squash in USA, I was working really hard every single day to play tournaments, compete at a high level and represent my country the best way”
“Helping people to achieve their squash goals is the best thing I can do; I love squash, and I owe a lot to the people who taught me this sport”
“I love working with different categories, but the category I like the best is the pros, I just like to work with them, but it requires a lot of effort especially outside the court as I have to understand their mind and how they think to be able to help them and give them what they need”
