Zamalek started off their Egyptian League campaign with a hard earned victory against Alexandria's Ettihad with one clean goal at Petrosport Stadium. Mostafa Mohamed scored the White Giants only goal 5 minutes into the game handing his team the first 3 points of the season.
The White Giants opened the game strong as Mahmoud scored his team's goal in the 5th minute after making use of a threw ball by Zizo to blast it into the net of Ettihad.
Ten minutes later Imam Ashour came really close to adding his team's second goal but he strike the ball wide over the post.
Ettihad wasted their only real chance in the first half after Khaled Qammar stepped in to take a spot kick from a critical position, but he struck it easy into the arms of the keeper.
The second half was not as major as the first one, with both teams choosing to not risk opening up their positions as neither team made a valiant effort at goal within the opening 25 minutes as Zamalek compressed their lines.
Four minutes into extra time however, Ettihad came really close to equalize as after a strong shot found it's way to Mahmoud Alaa's arms and deflected into a corner, but the referee chose to issue the final whistle before the Alexandrian team could play their corner.
