Yemeni Foreign Minister Shaia Mohsen Al-Zindani has highlighted Russia's pivotal role in international politics, expressing hope that Russia will contribute to ending the escalation in the region.
During a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, as reported by Russia Today, Al-Zindani praised Russia for its significant role in supporting Yemen through various stages and its honorable stance in the UN Security Council and other international forums to back the legitimate Yemeni government and seek a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict initiated by the Houthi group against the legitimate authority.
Al-Zindani pointed to the deep-rooted historical ties between Yemen and Russia, expressing his anticipation of Russia's continued presence and contribution in various fields in Yemen.
He noted that he discussed with Lavrov the bilateral relations in various domains, highlighting an agreement on a series of steps to invigorate relations between the two countries in the cultural, scientific, technological, and energy sectors, among others.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov confirmed significant progress in bilateral relations with Yemen despite the crisis it is undergoing, expressing hope for Yemen to overcome its challenges.
Lavrov remarked on the celebration of the 95th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries last November, emphasizing that the existing relations are built on a strong foundation of friendship.
Lavrov added that Russia is keen to strengthen relations with Yemen, pointing to the development of trade and economic ties and the exchange of views regarding the regional situation and the efforts needed to overcome the Yemeni crisis.
On his part, Al-Zindani appreciated the Russian government's support for peace in Yemen and expressed his desire to enhance the bilateral relations further.
