Moroccan giants Wydad AC officially announced on Friday the signing of Syrian striker Omar Al Somah from Saudi side Al-Orobah, in a move aimed at strengthening the squad ahead of their crucial 2025 FIFA Club World Cup showdown with Juventus in the United States.
Wydad are competing in Group G of the tournament alongside Manchester City, Al Ain (UAE), and Juventus, and are looking to bounce back after a 2–0 loss to City in their opening match.
The Casablanca-based club introduced their new signing through a presentation video on social media titled "Omar Al Somah… From Damascus to the Red Fortress", celebrating the veteran striker’s arrival at a pivotal stage of his career. The deal is a short-term contract, valid for the duration of Wydad’s Club World Cup campaign, and aims to bring Al Somah’s proven goal-scoring ability and international experience to the front line.
Al Somah, widely regarded as one of the top goal-scorers in Arab football history, made his name with Al Ahli Saudi, where he starred for years before moving to Al-Orobah.
His move to Wydad marks a new chapter as he prepares to face top European competition in one of football’s biggest global stages.
