World intellectual property Day.. 76.4% percentage of patents granted to Egyptians by Egyptian Patent Office in 2022

Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) issued today , a press release on the occasion of the World intellectual property day, where the world celebrates it on 26 April annually ,which was adopted by the member States of the word intellectual property organization (WIPO) in 2000 to enhance public awareness of value of intellectual property and celebrate the innovators and creators contributions to development of societies 2023 under the slogan " Women and intellectual property – accelerating innovation and creativity"

Global indicators:

- Number of international submitted patents increased according to cooperation which managed by (WIPO) organization by 0.3% in 2022 reaches to )278100( application.

Most important local indicators are as follows:

• Trademarks:

- Number of applications submitted for trademarks reached )30423( in 2022, compared to )36955( applications in 2021, a decrease by17.7%.

- Number of applications presented to Egyptian trademark office by Egyptians to obtain trademarks reached )25713( applications in 2022, compared to )28448( applications of total patents in 2021, a decrease by 9.6%.

- Number of granted trademarks reached (11869) trademarks in 2022 ,Egypt (9070), other countries (2799), compared to (10997) trademarks in 2021, an increase by 7.9%.

-Egypt occupied the first rank in trademarks granted by Egyptian trademarks office as it reached )9070( trademarks by 76.4% followed by U.S.A )888 ( trademarks by

7.5 % then U.A.E )299 (trademarks by 2.5 % of the total granted trademarks in 2022.

• Submitted Patents:

- Number of Patents submitted to Egyptian Patent Office )1914) in 2022, including (589( submitted Patents for Egyptians by 30.8%, )1325( for foreigners by 69.2%, compared to )2225) Patents submitted in 2021 (881) for Egyptians by 39.6%, )1344 ) for foreigners by 60.4%, a decrease by 14 % .

• Granted Patents:

- Number of patents granted by Egyptian patent office )512) in 2022 , including

(102) for Egyptian by 19.9%, )410) patents for foreigners by 80.1% of the total patents, compared to )508) patents in 2021 (63) patents for Egyptians by 12.4%,

) 445) patents for foreigners by 87.6 % , an increase by 0.8 % .

• Granted Patents according to international classification:

-) 145) is Number of granted patents, according

to international classification in the field of

chemistry and metals represents 28.3 % of total

patents in 2022 (14.5% for Egyptians, 85.5% for

foreigners) followed by humanitarian needs

which records )112) patents by 21.9 % (27.7% for

Egyptians, 72.3 % for foreigners) then the field

of Formation and transport operations which

records (93) patents by 18.2 % (24.7% for Egyptians, 75.3% for foreigners).

• Granted patents for countries:

- Applicants from Egyptian ranked first, with a total of )102( patents, at a rate of 19.9% United States of America applicants came in second place, as the number of patents granted to them by Egyptian Patent Office reached )90( patents, with a rate of 17.6%, and applicants from Japan came in third place with a total number of )42( patents, with a rate of 8.2% of the total patents granted in 2022.
