WASHINGTON, Jan. 9 (SEE)- The World Bank said in a statement on Tuesday that Marina Wes was appointed a regional director for Egypt, Yemen, and Djibouti as of January 1, 2018.
She was the bank's country director for West Bank and Gaza. Prior to this position, she was the country manager for Poland and the Baltic States.
Wes joined the World Bank in 2000 to work as an economic expert in the Poverty Reduction and Economic Management Unit for Europe and Central Asia and has since worked on a variety of issues in important emerging markets, including India, Pakistan, and Turkey.
Before joining the World Bank, Wes was a senior economist at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and as an assistant professor of international finance at the University of Amsterdam.
The new Regional Director is a Dutch national and holds a doctorate from the London School of Economics.
In addition to her work on macroeconomics, she published a variety of articles on finance, trade and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).
