The World Health Organization (WHO) announced that the largest hospital in the Gaza Strip was bombed on Friday by Israeli warplanes and that 20 hospitals in Gaza are now out of service.

In response to a question about an Israeli raid on the courtyard of Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, WHO spokeswoman Margaret Harris said, “I do not have details about Al-Shifa Hospital, but we know that they are being bombed.”

She confirmed that there was "severe violence" at the site, quoting her colleagues on the ground.

In turn, Jens Laerke, spokesman for the United Nations Office for Humanitarian Affairs, said that there were some “problems” with bringing aid into Gaza through the Rafah crossing, which he said was intended for pedestrians and not trucks.

He stated that only 65 trucks carrying food, medicine, hygiene supplies, water, and seven ambulances crossed from Egypt into Gaza on Wednesday, and none of this aid could reach northern Gaza.

He added: "We cannot go to the north of the Strip at the current stage, which is of course very frustrating because we know that there are several hundred thousand people who are still in the north.
