Egyptians' gold purchases (bullion and jewelry) amounted to approximately 27.6 tons in the first six months of 2024, a 16% decrease from the same period in 2023, which amounted to about 32.9 tons, according to the World Gold Council (WGC)'s report released today.
The report indicated that Egyptians' purchases of bullion and coins during this period amounted to 12.8 tons, a 31% decrease from the same period in 2023, which recorded 18.5 tons.
Additionally, Egyptians' purchases of jewelry during this period reached about 14.8 tons, a 2.8% increase compared to the same period last year, which recorded 14.4 tons.
The report also highlighted that Egyptians' gold purchases during the second quarter of 2024 amounted to 14.4 tons, including 6.8 tons of jewelry, a 2% increase compared to the same period last year, and 7.6 tons of bullion, a 27% decrease compared to the same period last year.
