The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has issued a warning that the Gaza Strip is experiencing a critical shortage of supplies after Israel imposed a complete blockade on the area in response to deadly Hamas attacks.

Brian Lander, who serves as the deputy head of emergencies at WFP, noted that the situation in the Gaza Strip is becoming dire as food and water supplies are limited and rapidly dwindling. Lander also stated that while the WFP is on the ground and providing food to thousands of people who have sought shelter in schools and elsewhere across the Gaza Strip, they are going to run out very soon.

On Monday, Israel declared a total siege on Gaza, stopping the entry of food, fuel and water into the coastal territory, and closing all crossing points following the weekend rampage by Hamas, which resulted in more than 1,300 casualties.

On Thursday, the International Committee of the Red Cross (IRCRC) also warned that fuel supplies for hospital generators in Gaza would soon run out and that their stocks of aid and medicine within Gaza were stranded without safe passage.

In addition to sealing the border, the Israeli military has launched massive air attacks on the enclave, forcing hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to flee their homes.
