Waziri: Opens Exhibition of Antiquities of Qantir City at Egyptian Museum in Tahrir

Under the title "Antiquities of Qentir: A Century of Excavations and Research at the Ramesside Residence", Dr. Mostafa Waziri, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, and Frank Hartmann, German Ambassador to Cairo, inaugurated yesterday evening a temporary exhibition of antiquities at the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, in cooperation between the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir and the Römer Museum Belizius in Germany.

During his speech to celebrate this occasion, Dr. Mustafa Waziri expressed his happiness at holding this exhibition, which is one of the aspects of joint cooperation between the Museum and the State of Germany, as this cooperation extends for many years in a number of areas of archaeological and museum work.

Waziri stressed that the exhibition is an important message, which is that Egypt came first, then history came later, noting that there are 250 archaeological missions from 25 foreign countries working in Egypt in a number of Egyptian governorates, as they are incubators of history, excavations and archaeological discoveries.

Ambassador Frank Hartmann expressed his happiness at the opening of this exhibition, appreciating the efforts exerted by the Egyptian Museum team for the proper presentation of the exhibition. During his speech, he reviewed the history of excavations in the city of Qintyre (located in Sharqia Governorate, which began in 1980 by the Römer-Pelizius Museum in Germany in cooperation with the Supreme Council of Antiquities.

Dr. Dietrich Rau, Director of the German Institute of Archeology in Cairo, also appreciated the role of the Egyptians in the excavation work in the city of Qintyre, as well as the workers of the archaeological site, who greatly contributed to the success of the excavation work.

Moamen Othman, Head of the Museums Sector at the Supreme Council of Antiquities, explained that the exhibition includes 250 artifacts from the discoveries of the city of Qintyre.

He also reviewed the history of the excavations in it, which were initiated by the archaeologists Mahmoud Hamza and Labib Habashi, and then completed by the Römer-Belzeus Museum in cooperation with the Supreme Council of Antiquities.

For his part, Dr. said. Ali Abdel Halim, Director -General of the Egyptian Museum, said that the exhibition also includes statues and inscriptions of the first kings from the Ramesside era, such as King Seti I and King Ramses II, in addition to architectural elements and artifacts that illustrate the aspects of daily life within that important city, as well as the discoveries of each of the archaeologists who conducted excavations in this place.

Dr.Abdel Halim added that the exhibition continues during the period from July 16 to October 16, 2023, in Hall No. 44 on the ground floor of the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, and its visitors can tour the exhibition during the official working hours of the museum.
