On Saturday, the Biden administration announced that thousands of Haitians who had congregated at the southern border over the previous week would be deported.
The action is intended to alleviate the overflow at Del Rio and dissuade other Haitians from attempting to enter the US.
The strategy established by the Department of Homeland Security will "accelerate the speed and enhance the capacity" of removal aircraft to Haiti and other places in the next 72 hours, according to the New York Times.
Over 14,000 Haitians have crossed the ankle-deep river between Mexico and Del Rio and are camped under a bridge while waiting to be processed by the United States.
According to reports, some of them are looking for jobs in the United States, while others are fleeing violence in their home countries.
