US Indicates Support for Egypt in Organizing Successful COP27

The US special presidential envoy for climate John Kerry indicated that his country supports Egypt in organizing a successful United Nations Conference of the Parties (COP27) in November, during a phone call with Egypt’s Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad.

Both officials discussed bilateral relations and Egypt’s preparations to host the climate change conference in Sharm El-Sheikh resort city later this year, according to a statement released by the environment ministry.

They affirmed the collective efforts to combat the climate change issue and the importance of building on the outcomes of COP26, which was held in Glasgow in November 2021.

They also agreed on kickstarting cooperation in this regard by forming a joint action group between the US and the Egyptian ministries of environment and foreign affairs.

Moreover, Kerry showed a highly cooperative spirit by offering his country's assistance to Egypt in the area of climate mitigation and adaptation actions, stressing the need for developed countries to fulfill their pledges to provide the necessary funding.
