The Biden administration imposed new sanctions on Wednesday targeting a Lebanese network accused of smuggling oil and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to fund Hezbollah.
The sanctions, announced by the US Treasury Department, target three individuals, five companies, and two vessels connected to Hezbollah's financing operations.
According to the Treasury Department, these entities are under the control of a senior Hezbollah financier and have used profits from illicit LPG shipments to Syria to generate revenue for the group.
This move is part of Washington’s ongoing efforts to curb Hezbollah’s funding sources, which the US claims contribute to regional instability.
Bradley Smith, the acting Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, emphasized that Hezbollah continues to destabilize the region through its military actions, including launching rockets at Israel, while neglecting the welfare of the Lebanese people, including the tens of thousands displaced in southern Lebanon.
