Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced on Monday that Ukraine has received a $3.9 billion grant from the United States through the World Bank.

Shmyhal stated via Telegram, "This is the first tranche of direct budget support from the United States in 2024. Overall, Ukraine will receive $7.8 billion in direct budget support from the US this year, enabling us to confidently navigate this fiscal period."

In a separate statement, the Ukrainian Ministry of Finance outlined that the funds would be allocated for salaries of teachers, emergency management personnel, and other government employees.

Additionally, the funds will support displaced persons, low-income families, and individuals with disabilities.

Finance Minister Sergii Marchenko noted, "The grant will help the Ukrainian government meet priority social and humanitarian expenses without increasing debt burdens."

The ministry further highlighted that direct budget support from the United States has totaled about $27 billion since February 2022, marking the largest financial aid source for Ukraine.

Marchenko added that this grant is part of a substantial $60 billion support package for Ukraine.
