The US dollar continued to weaken against the Egyptian pound on Monday, January 5, 2026, recording a notable decline in Egyptian banks. Since the start of morning trading, the dollar has lost around 29 piastres compared with its closing levels on Sunday, reflecting sustained selling pressure.

According to official data, the exchange rate at the Central Bank of Egypt stood at EGP 47.53 for buying and EGP 47.66 for selling. The decline was mirrored across major commercial banks operating in the local market.

At National Bank of Egypt, the dollar was priced at EGP 47.32 for buying and EGP 47.42 for selling, while Commercial International Bank recorded rates of EGP 47.27 for buying and EGP 47.37 for selling. At Credit Agricole Egypt, the US currency traded at EGP 47.25 for buying and EGP 47.35 for selling.

Meanwhile, Banque Misr quoted the dollar at slightly higher levels, reaching EGP 47.65 for buying and EGP 47.75 for selling.

The continued decline comes amid improved dollar liquidity in the banking sector and growing confidence in the Egyptian pound, supported by stronger foreign currency inflows and ongoing monetary stability measures.
