The United States ( US) has appointed an Iranian-born captain to lead one of its nuclear aircraft carriers, known in as the "deterrent force" that it may send to the Gulf region later this year.
Persian-language “ Voice of America” US government-run radio revealed that the US military recently named Captain Chavon Hakimzadeh to lead the USS Harry Truman nuclear aircraft carrier.
The "deterrent force" is usually used to carry out secret missions throughout the world.

USS Harry Truman aircraft carrier is specially designed to be a naval air base in the seas and oceans.
It can deploy and retrieve aircraft on board ships at sea without relying on local bases.
From now on, Hakimzadeh will lead Harry Truman and her fleet on deterrent missions to address the challenges and tensions in the Middle East region.

He joined the US Navy as a sailor 30 years ago in Norfolk, Virginia.
He told the “Voice of America” that since then he has been hoping to reach this position in the US military.
It is worth to mention that Hakimzadeh was born to an Iranian father and an American mother in Texas.
He spent the early years of his childhood in Iran with his parents when Iran was still a royal state under Pahlavi Dynasty.
He was forced to leave Iran with his parents and younger sister following the victory of the Islamic revolution in 1979 to survive the revolutionary courts, executions and liquidations that followed the collapse of the royal system.
Hakimzadeh and his sister were respectively 11 and 9 years old then. His family lived in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, after arriving in the United States.
