On Thursday, the US Department of Defense announced an additional $225 million in security assistance to meet Ukraine's critical security and defense needs.

This announcement followed a meeting between US President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Washington.

According to the Pentagon's official website, this latest aid package marks the 61st tranche of equipment provided by the Biden administration from the Department of Defense's stocks to Ukraine since August 2021.

Earlier this week, President Biden announced joint actions with Germany, Romania, the Netherlands, and Italy to enhance Ukraine's air defenses by providing five strategic air defense systems, including Patriot batteries and SAMP/T systems.

These systems will help protect Ukrainian cities, civilians, and soldiers.

The US, along with its allies and partners, remains committed to supplying Ukraine with additional air defense capabilities to defend against ongoing Russian aggression, according to the announcement.

Since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the United States has provided Kyiv with military assistance exceeding $50 billion in total value, as stated in a Pentagon report released on July 3.
