Ross Wilson, US ambassador to Afghanistan, sought to quash rumors that he and embassy staff had fled the country.
He tweeted that he was still in Kabul, the capital city of Afghanistan, to help thousands of Americans and Afghans who try to leave the country.
"Contrary to false reports, US Embassy staff and I remain in Kabul working hard to help thousands of vulnerable American citizens and Afghans. Our commitment to the Afghan people continues," he tweeted.
Wilson said that they are helping US citizens depart from Afghanistan, recommending people not to come to the airport until they have been notified by the Embassy."
This came after the chaos in Kabul airport, where thousands of Afghans went in an attempt to flee the country via US military planes.
Circulating video footage showed hundreds of Afghans climbing the stairs of a plane, or running in the path of a plane trying to take off.
On the other hand, US President Joe Biden surprised his administration's critics because of what happened in Afghanistan after the withdrawal, which some considered shameful, by saying that the exit of the troops was timely.
Biden said what is happening in Afghanistan is disturbing but there is no regret about the decision to withdraw troops, adding that the objective of the US operation in Afghanistan was to prevent attacks on our country, and its goal was achieved.
Biden stressed that not withdrawing troops from Afghanistan would have meant an escalation of the conflict and would require thousands of additional military personnel, saying that the American army should not die in a war that the Afghan forces do not want to fight.
He said that Afghanistan's leaders surrendered and fled, and the army collapsed, adding that the United States gave Afghan forces everything they needed but failed to give them the will to win.
He pledged the United States of America (USA) will continue to support the Afghan people, encourage regional diplomacy, and support human rights.
