Militants attacked a mosque in northwestern Nigeria's Katsina state, killing 10 people and kidnapping several others, local residents told the media.

According to eyewitnesses, unidentified assailants arrived at  Mosque in Maigamji on motorbikes and shot indiscriminately at the worshipers, forcing them to flee.

About 12 people attending the Al Isha prayer were reported to have been killed, including the imam.

Then they gathered many people and took them to the forests.

A spokesman for the Katsina state police confirmed the attack, saying that state-backed vigilante groups with the support of local residents managed to rescue some worshipers from the attackers.
