Executive Director of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Catherine Russell called for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, citing the serious violations committed by Israel against children, including killing, maiming, kidnapping, attacks on schools and hospitals, and preventing access to humanitarian aid.

She also stressed that there is no safe place for children in Gaza.

According to the United Nations News Centre, the UN official pointed to the killing of more than 4,600 children in Gaza, the injury of about 9,000 others, and the loss of many others who are believed to be buried under the rubble of collapsed buildings and homes.

She said that this is the tragic result of the use of explosive weapons in populated areas.
