Thirty-seven United Nations Human Rights experts have called on the international community to recognize the State of Palestine and uphold their legal obligations under international law.
In a joint statement, the experts emphasized the International Court of Justice's ruling that Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories is illegal and called for countries to take concrete steps toward compliance.
The experts outlined specific actions for nations to ensure adherence to the court’s decision, including ending Israel’s unlawful occupation, halting attacks on Palestinians, and ensuring the protection of civilians.
Additionally, they urged the convening of the General Assembly under the Rome Statute or the Fourth Geneva Convention to ensure full compliance with international humanitarian and criminal law in both Palestine and Israel.
The experts also stressed the importance of safeguarding vulnerable groups in Palestine, particularly women, children, the disabled, and the elderly, while calling for increased monitoring and investigation of human rights violations.
Their statement also pressed for accountability and justice in the occupied Palestinian territories.
