The United Nations World Food Program (UNWFP) has warned that the population of Ukraine is at risk of starvation.
The head of the UN program, David Beasley, said today, Friday, after a visit to Ukraine, that he had not allowed aid convoys to enter the city of Mariupol since it was besieged by Russian forces two weeks ago.
He added that “when people suffer the horrors of war, it is one thing, and when they are left to starve to death, it is another.”
The WFP estimates that a third of the population in Ukraine and 60 percent of internally displaced people are concerned about being unable to find enough food for their families.
Beasley stated that 100,000 people still residing in Mariupol, and the last supplies of food and water will end soon, indicating that the situation of cities in the east of the country is of great concern to those in charge of the program.
