United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres strongly condemned on Sunday, the attack that targeted Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, calling for restraint and a renunciation of violence.
"The Secretary-General strongly condemns the assassination attempt on Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi. He calls for holding the perpetrators of this crime accountable," the Spokesperson for the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres said in a statement.
Guterres also called on Iraqis to "exercise the utmost restraint and renounce all forms of violence and any attempts to destabilize Iraq."
Noteworthy, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi escaped an assassination attempt on Sunday after an explosive-laden drone targeted his residence in Baghdad, the country’s military said.
Al-Kadhimi went on to Twitter moments after the attack and called for “calm and restraint from everyone.”
“Thank God, I am fine and among my people,” he tweeted on his official account, according to CNN.
