United Nations Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric has reaffirmed grave concern regarding the ongoing hostilities in Aleppo, Syria, warning of the risks of further escalation and its devastating impact on civilians, despite ongoing efforts to calm the fighting.
According to the UN Information Center, Dujarric emphasized that all parties are obligated under international law to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure at all times.
He appealed to all involved to avoid further escalation, exercise restraint, and take concrete steps to prevent additional civilian casualties.
Dujarric also conveyed the United Nations' call for all parties to demonstrate genuine flexibility and good faith, urging an urgent return to negotiations to ensure the full implementation of the March 10 agreement between the government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
For its part, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) stated that worsening insecurity in parts of Aleppo has disrupted access to major roads, thereby limiting movement and humanitarian reach.
The office noted that the United Nations is coordinating with relevant groups to ensure the organization can continue delivering essential aid.
