Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths has called for the support of the international community to repair the deteriorating infrastructure in Ukraine, due to attacks on energy infrastructure in Kyiv, including power and heating stations.

He noted that the damage to Ukraine’s infrastructure led to the deprivation of millions of people from heating, electricity, and water, indicating that this is another dangerous dimension of the humanitarian crisis caused by the war in Ukraine.

Griffiths stressed - in a press briefing before the Security Council, according to the UN Information Center - that the weekly Russian air and missile attacks targeting critical infrastructure throughout Ukraine, have caused great damage to the electricity grid, which has led to massive power outages, telephone and Internet lines, and reduced Ukraine's water supply.

According to him, more than 14 million people were forcibly displaced from their homes in Ukraine, including 6.5 million internally displaced persons, and more than 7.8 million refugees were registered across Europe.
